Finished another quilt

While working on the baby quilts I decided to make a lap quilt for my mom for Christmas--actually surprised that I got it done on time, usually I take on too much at this time of year!

It's machine pieced and hand quilted

Tidbits for Thursday

It's a foggy fall morning here and the rain has started falling.  Think some baking and quilting are in order for today.

One more Dear Jane block finished!

It would be lovely to have Dorothy's  ruby red slippers, so I could tap them together and wish "there's no place like home", and transport myself to Kansas. Today is my mother's 94th birthday and it would be nice to be there to share it with her.

Gathering bits and pieces.........

I've joined another challenge (actually 3) at Cloth Doll Artistry.  Here I'm gathering bits and pieces that are possibilities for a new doll.  The only rules are to use the doll pattern-no instructions and it must have ribbon on it somewhere.  This fall handkerchief keeps popping up in my stash of stuff, so think it will become part of the doll dress.

Rainy days are perfect for quilting

I'm still working on baby quilts......................
(the one for my great nephew is close to being finished!)

but I took a wee break and finished one of my Dear Jane Blocks.............
I had a hard time with this one.  I redid parts of it a couple of times and decided this was as good as it was going to get.  There are so many seams in this one--makes it feel pretty bulky.

And this is my granddaughter Lilly at her 8th birthday party.

I have my granddaughters flower garden basted to batting and backing--ready to start quilting!

No quilting done this week............

It's been a busy week getting my old roof off and the new one on.

The roof before, very weathered cedar shakes......
This is what I had to deal with once they were all off....

And this is the finished roof.......

Hope to get back to quilting later next week, but have things to get tucked in before winter arrives!

Great-nephew has arrived.............

My great-nephew was born yesterday (still waiting for my granddaughter).  I have his quilt top complete and ready to be basted to the batting and backing.  I thought about embroidering his name and birth date on the red border, but also thought of just embroidering a block to put on the back of the quilt.

I still have one more row of flowers to sew on my granddaughters hexi-flower quilt, but it's getting there!

Prim Doll Challenge...............

I joined Coth Doll Artistry hoping it would inspire me make dolls again. A pumpkin pattern was provided to use however you chose, this is what I came up with for the Prim Doll Halloween Challenge.  I call her Mrs. Peter-Peter Pumpkin Eater.  She is about 6-inches tall.

Three new quilting books............

I've been busy working on my two baby quilts, both babies will be arriving any time now.  The three new books are by Bonnie K. Hunter and they are all on scrap quilting.  They are like a modern day version of the way my grandmother used to quilt, especially the book Scraps & Shirttails: Reuse, Re-purpose, Recycle! The Art of "Quilting Green".  She made all of her grandchildren quilts and it was so much fun to look at them and find bit and pieces of dresses, or blouses I wore or shirts from my brothers.

(Don't know why this picture posted sideways, haven't figured out how to fix it!)

Cutting and sorting pieces for scrap quilts will be another project for this winter, as if I didn't have
enough projects already!

Bell and Bean Salsa

I've been away from the computer for awhile.  I went to Kansas to visit my Mom and my youngest brother.  While there my brother made this Bell and Bean Salsa, a recipe he received from my sister.
It was so good I thought now that I'm home and peppers are in abundance I would make some.
Bell and Bean Salsa
3 sweet bell peppers (red, yellow & orange), diced small
½ cup onion (red) diced small
1 cup celery, diced small
2 Tablespoons canned jalapeno pepper, diced
1 4 oz. jar diced pimento (didn’t use)
1 can black-eyed peas
1 can black beans
1 can shoepeg corn

Marinade:
Heat together ½ cup oil, ½ cup cider vinegar, 1 cup sugar or Splenda, salt and pepper.
Cool – pour over veggies, let sit up to 24 hours, drain.
*******************************************************
I've been playing around a bit with one of the baby quilts--
Looking forward to September--two new babies in the family and things will slow down a bit so I can get back to quilting.

Summer has finally come to northern Idaho

We went from below normal, to above normal temperatures practically over night.  I'm just grateful for some sunshine--finally! My cat -known as Mud- is enjoying an afternoon nap out of the heat.

*********************

I have been working a bit on one of the baby quilts
I'm doing paper-pieced tumbler blocks for one side of my great-nephews quilt.  I was going to put the red along the two long edges, but after seeing it laid out I think I will mingle it in with the other colors.

*********************

I have a couple of new quilting books.  Well this first one is actually old, but new to me.
I think these blocks will be great for using up scraps.

I can't wait to start doing the embroidery in this book. (One of these days, I hope my photos will be better!)

Added to my fabric stash...........

My sister-in-law's mother was a quilter and I have inherited part of her stash.  That's my cat JuneBug peering through the stacks.
and three more stacks
I already have 3 or 4 quilts swirling around in my head!  Most of the pieces are 1 and 2 yard pieces some as much as 4 yards. A lot of pastels that I very seldom use, but they will take me outside my comfort zone of color.   Too much fabric--JuneBug gave up on her afternoon nap!

It's Wednesday again...............

I have three flowers for this Wednesday-----
I have 22 finished flowers and have fabric cut for 22 more.  These are 1/12 inch hexi's so it makes an
8-inch flower. I think 44 flowers should give me enough blocks to play around with.
Take a stroll through the flower garden at Karen's blog--such pretty flowers!
